Proyecto Las Compuertas Cinco Suelos 2021, a 100% Malbec from Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Its name, Cinco Suelos (“five plots”) comes from the five different areas the grapes are harvested from.
The wine undergoes a cold maceration for four days, and an eight months maturation in concrete eggs.
It’s a medium body, medium alcohol (13,1%), fresh acidity, fine tannins, long finish, fruity wine, which must be opened 1hr before drinking to get rid of any lingering reductive aromas, and be served around 16° for it to be able to express fully.
Expect black pepper, candied plum, blackberry, cherry, violets, a hint of black tea, and some tobacco that you will notice mostly on the palate.
Tasted in 2024.
The wine paired well with Herbie Hancock’s Round Midnight, the soundtrack of 1986 Bertrand Tavernier’s film masterpiece, with the superb acting and performing by the legendary tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon.
