Casa Sosegada 2020, by Rafael Cambra. A blend of Monastrell with a few nearly forgotten autoctonous grapes (Arco, Forcallat, Bonicaire, Rojal) from Southern Valencia.
It welcomes you with a remarkable medicinal cabinet aroma, soon giving way to ripe raspberries, redcurrant, ripe red cherries, lush plums, black pepper, fresh herbs, liquorice and leather.
Also, smooth tannins, medium alcohol, -balanced by its acidity-, and a medium body, with a nice, somehow bitter finish. Plus, a very Pinot Noir-like color, but the similarities end there. Maturation in concrete eggs for 14 months.
Cambra succeeds in polishing the rough edges of the Monastrell grapes in order to produce a truly rounded wine.
Tasted in 2024.
